Student Expresses Appreciation for Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement staff, teachers and volunteers can benefit greatly from positive comments from the students they serve. A recent speech by Edgar Halligan expresses his appreciation for Junior Achievement. Edgar is an eighth grader from Leadership Christian Academy in Erie, Pennsylvania. He recently spoke at a Junior Achievement "kick-off event".

Jan Leonardi, education program manager for Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania, said that the audience was very impressed with Halligan's comments. "The eighth grader, who wrote the entire speech himself, said that Junior Achievement helped equip him with a broad overview of the business world. "We think it is a wonderful example of what our JA students take away from programs," Leonardi said.

Halligan said that many of the questions he had about business were answered by Junior Achievement."Studying economics is important because it affects every area of our life," Halligan said in his speech. "It is important to know the meaning of expenses, incomes, profits, and losses. Junior Achievement has helped to explain these terms through examples, games, and hands-on activities. The games that are used simulate real business situations and challenges and the volunteers make them fun to play."

"JA teaches this generation of students the importance of how financial systems work and how to become a contributing citizen. It helps students to learn the importance of self-reliance and interconnected responsibility. Overall, Junior Achievement is preparing young adults for the future business world. It is making sure the students well prepared for success in the work place, so that they can face the challenges that will come in the future."
